Work Experience Week 2014 – London Adventure and Sky Event

Sorry for the lack of activity – the last few weeks have been hectic.

We’ve got a biggie for you today, an update from both our Apprentices, Georgina and Bethan.

Firstly let’s hear Georgina’s account of the day…

Work Experience Week 2014 was a massive success! To kick off the week the Fair Train team went to London, read on to find out about our antics and the biggest Work Experience Week to date.

The team (myself and Bethan included) started off the week in London! For someone who has never experienced London this was an amazing day for me, even worth the early start.

Never been on a train to London or the tube and now here I was looking in awe at the Underground! Tower Hill, Waterloo, Victoria – so many places and people.

After getting off the train it was straight to the underground and off to Tower Hill to see the Tower of London with the country’s history running from its core and the iconic Poppies placed there as a reminder of another storm we have weathered. It really did give you a chill to think so much had happened in these very places!

The Tower, the Poppies and the Shard in the background, mist surrounding it all was really a great sight. Seeing all of this wouldn’t have been complete without a group photo, here are the lovely ladies of Fair Train so that you can finally put a face to the name!

After this Beth and Jess had to leave us for a while so the remaining four went on a quick fire tour of London, taking in all the ‘touristy’ sites. Even though it was a miserable day (weather wise), it was great fun!

Back on the tube we went and started off seeing some iconic London landmarks – the London Eye then Big Ben! A few quick snaps and we were off again to parliament square. There was so many people, the city really did come to life!

Number 10 Downing Street was next on the agenda and what a site that is with its black iron gates and armed guard, then the iconic walk towards Buckingham Palace and who happened to be home? The Queen of course, we didn’t manage to bag ourselves a prince though, better luck next time! And of course in true tourist fashion I photographed everything! From Big Ben to a phone box, all the iconic scenes of London were captured.

All the niceties over it was time to go find the missing two of our party – Jess and Beth. With a race against time for the train – where were they? No place other than Sky HQ!

It was finally time for the launch of Work Experience Week 2014 and Sky Academy couldn’t have been better hosts. An amazing venue, brilliant support, the event went without a hitch from start to finish.

Work Experience Quality Standard Awards were presented at Gold Standard to multiple organisations and a very lucky lady named Maria won her dream Work Experience placement as well as an iPad all on her 21st Birthday!

We couldn’t think of a better way to launch the biggest and best Work Experience Week yet! Thank you to Sky for the launch event and thank you to Fair Train for letting me be part of this wonderful day!

Well, Georgina has really captured the mood of the day, let’s see what Bethan thought of her first Work Experience Week.

I must say that Work Experience Week has been one of the longest most anticipated events (and our busiest) we’ve had at Fair Train and to be involved in a project alongside Sky was just amazing to be a part of. The Sky team put in so much effort and we cannot say thank you enough.

From what you’ve read of Georgina’s part you know that we got up to lots of mischief and had a very fast but brilliant whistle stop tour of the most renowned places in London. It was my first time in London and definitely not my last I’m hoping to head back to London sometime soon and actually hit the shops!

The launch event was fantastic! It went down without any troubles, from all the anticipation and build up to the event I half expected there to be some disaster but thankfully it was perfect start to finish. It was lovely to see our Gold standard adopters being awarded their trophies and we also got a chance to do some networking with them. It’s great to put faces to names, it was energetic and fun and everything we could have wanted from the event.

Esther McVey who unfortunately couldn’t attend appeared via video message which was a brilliant surprise!

We have been so busy from the day it began until the very end and we’re only just starting to catch up with ourselves. We’ve been reviewing everything from work experience week and we’ll be using everything we’ve learnt for next year in preparation for Work Experience Week 2015.

Many thanks to the Sky team and everyone involved!

As you can see the whole team enjoyed the day, but that was just the start! Work Experience Week 2014 was a buzz of activities from start to finish, thank you to our amazing supporters and everyone involved in the week.

Keep an eye out for our next post and also for Work Experience Week 2015, it’s got some mighty boots to fill after this year.
